People Can Fly game designer and community manager, Arcade Berg, offers some top tips to playing in style in Bulletstorm's Echoes Mode on PlayStation 3.
In Bulletstorm you play as Grayson Hunt, a warrior stranded on the abandoned paradise planet of Stygia, surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs. Alongside the game's epic campaign and multiplayer modes, you can take on a series of challenges that test your speed and creativity, Echoes Mode. Sample it right now for free on PlayStation Store by downloading the demo. Check out this guide to creative carnage and racking up the most points in Bulletstorm's Echoes Mode.
Try and execute as many different Skillshots as possible on every single enemy. A lot of the Skillshots can be stacked with others. For example, you gain more Skillpoints from an enemy if he's on fire when you finish him off. That's called the Afterburner Skillshot.
You could also do this while under the influence of Nom Juice for the Intoxicated Skillshot, and add even more points if the enemy is also being affected by Puffball Gas at the same time (this one's called the Antidote Skillshot). There are many different possibilities in Bulletstorm, so just experiment.
In some Echoes you can find bottles of Nom Juice that will intoxicate you if you drink it, rewarding every kill you perform during this time with the Intoxicated Skillshot. Try and make the most of this time, and remember that your vision will blur and your balance will become affected, increasing the challenge. If you're having a tough time performing Skillshots whilst intoxicated, or if you can't reach the bottle, you can still shoot and break it for two hundred points.
Every time you perform a new Skillshot for the first time in Echoes Mode, the Skillpoints you earn for it will be multiplied by five. Execute as many different Skillshots as you can to take advantage of this.
The Peacemaker Carbine
This weapon is well worth mastering early on, because you have it on you throughout the game. Not only do you want to learn all the Skillshots for the Peacemaker Carbine, you should also think long and hard about how you can combine them with other weapons.
Always make use of the Berserker enemies' (they are the green guys that charge you) Puffball Masks. If you aim for the head, their mask will explode, poisoning you if you're standing close enough. When poisoned, you get extra points for every enemy you take down. That's called the Toxic Love Skillshot.
Time is of the essence
The faster you finish the level in Echoes Mode, the more Time Bonus points you get. Every second is worth 20 Skillpoints, so try to find the perfect balance between spending an extra second or two to set up that perfect Skillshot, versus earning points for being fast on your feet. If those extra points for the Skillshot are worth more than the time it takes, then go right ahead and do it.
Charge Shots and Thumpers
Using the Leash's Thumper and all the weapons' Charge Shots enables a lot of Skillshots that you can't do otherwise, so make sure you utilize them. Keep in mind that it costs nothing to refill at the Dropkits located throughout the map. Remember, though, you only have three Charge Shots between each Dropkit.
Switch weaponry for new Skillshots
Since every weapon has unique Skillshots, and you get a huge bonus for executing new Skillshots, switching between your equipped weapons is a must. When playing larger maps in Echoes Mode that offer a lot of weapons, make sure you equip new ones and replace the old when you reach the Dropkits to make the most of the Skillshot Bonus.
It's good to learn which weapons work best in certain parts of the Echoes map. For example, it might be better to equip the Flailgun in parts of a map with larger groups of enemies instead of using it at the outset.
The Skillshot database
At times it can become tricky remembering which Skillshots you've performed in a round, and what the different Skillshots for each weapon are. To help with this, pull up the Skillshot Database by pressing SELECT on your wireless controller to see all the Skillshots you've discovered and executed so far.
The Echoes timer stops while you're browsing the Skillshot Database so you can take your time. The database may very well be the tool you need to get those extra 200 points needed to smash your friend's high score!
