The dead walk the earth
Welcome to the Palms Resort Hotel on the island of Banoi, a stunning tropical location off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Unfortunately for you, things are about to get very bloody, very fast as the island is under attack from hordes of flesh eating zombies.
Luckily for you, you're immune to their bites, which means it's up to you to help the remaining survivors and find a way off the island before it's too late. Welcome to the nightmare that is Dead Island on PlayStation 3.
You'll have to choose from one of three characters at the outset of this terror tale, including the one-hit wonder rap star, Sam B from New Orleans, former NFL superstar, Logan and the New South Wales police officer with a quick trigger finger, Purna.
Grab whatever weapons you can, stock up on medical supplies and prepare yourself for a truly thrilling horror experience.
Level up with the dead
Dead Island on PlayStation 3 is an open world action adventure game that's played from a first person perspective. While there are machine guns and pistols in the game, your primary source of defence throughout the campaign mode is a selection of melee weapons. These range from baseball bats to wrenches and steel pipes.
Weapons will weaken the more you use them, so look out for workbenches every time you to repair your arsenal or upgrade an item so it lasts a little longer in battle. The further you progress into the game the more experience points you'll gain, which means you can level up and enhance your skills in the options menu by pressing the SELECT button on your wireless controller.
Zombies will change over the course of the game. They too can level up, so make sure you have the right tools to hand when taking on some of the larger walking dead, such as the Thug Zombies. A good way to take these hulking monsters down is to keep your distance and throw a Molotov cocktail at them.
Dead Island is challenging yet truly rewarding, and once you master the art of slaying zombies, you'll have the island of Banoi cleaned up in no time.
The infection spreads online
Dead Island is the perfect game to experience online via PlayStation Network. Teaming up with up to three of your friends, you can take on hordes of the walking dead in the action-packed co-operative mode.
If you are playing through the game while connected to PlayStation Network and need a little help but your friends are offline, a pop-up message will notify you if players of the same skill level as you are close by. You can then invite them to play and start slaying zombies together.
In co-operative mode you can all take on different side quests on the map at the same time, but if you want to progress through the story and make it to the end of this blood soaked tale, you're going to need to team up to complete those missions.
Grab your wireless controller, call on three friends via PlayStation Network and start clearing the infested streets of Banoi. Good luck, because in Dead Island you're going to need it.
