Find out what it's like to get hands-on with super hero brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us on PlayStation 4.
The DC Comics Universe like you've never seen it before
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that The Joker with a nuclear bomb isn't going to end well. Injustice: Gods Among Us takes place in a dark, twisted version of the DC Comics Universe where this chilling scenario is a terrifying reality – and not even the combined super powers of the Justice League are enough to stop the insane super villain from destroying Metropolis.
The chain of events that this catastrophe triggers is enough to tear the world to pieces. The DC Universe that you knew before – and the heroes that inhabit it – is thrown into turmoil, with two new orders emerging; one led by Superman, driven to the brink of madness by grief for Lois Lane and the shattered world around him, and another led by Batman, dedicated to righting the wrongs which allowed The Joker to succeed.
As these two sides face off against each other, one last, desperate hope emerges: a portal to an alternate universe where Metropolis – and all of the super heroes and villains – survived the nuclear blast. Now, multiple versions of fan-favourite heroes and villains like Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Batman and Bane exist within the same world – but often with wildly different powers and ideologies that you might expect. With alliances and rivalries turned on their heads in this alternate reality, get ready to stand toe to toe with the universe's most iconic heroes and villains in a fight to save the planet.
Heroes and villains at war
Injustice: Gods Among Us on PlayStation 4 takes the characters that you'll know – and some you may not know – and places them into an intense, explosive and highly crafted world that will defy your expectations for each hero and villain. With new battle lines drawn and fresh allegiances formed in this new world, the DC Comics cast may behave in unexpected and surprising ways, facing off against each other in battles you've never imagined.
Characters are divided into two categories: power and tech. Power fighters use their natural skills, while the tech characters rely on gadgets and other items. For example, Superman is able to call upon power based abilities like heat vision, while the tech based Batman draws on grapples and batarangs to get the job done.
From the likes of Ares and Lex Luthor to Hawkgirl and Green Arrow, each character adds depth to the combat with their distinctive visual styles, moves and abilities.
Do battle in an alternate reality
The one-on-one battles you'll undertake as your favourite DC characters rely on fluid, brutal attacks. Three attacks buttons are used to put together moves, combos and counters – and with the DUALSHOCK 4 touch pad, you get a unique way to control a series of between-fight mini games, like throwing Batman's Batarangs to fend off an advancing Lex Luthor.
To complement their standard punches and kicks, each character possesses a variety of special moves to dish out extra damage. The assassin Deathstroke, for example, uses long-range attacks to control the fighting space, while more brawlers such as Doomsday have to close the gap to be effective.
Characters also interact differently with the environments. Stronger fighters are able to throw parts of the scenery, while others make use of their speed and cunning. Villains prove especially fierce during bouts. The Joker's brutality stands out, as he uses a number of vicious weapons in his assaults, including crowbars and guns.

Take the legend online
Whether you're playing with friends at home or via PlayStation Network, Injustice: Gods Among Us offers the chance to create some wonderful rivalries.
Developer NetherRealm Studios is a master of making you feel like you're on top of the world when you triumph over a friend in a fighting game. Its Mortal Kombat series offers a fantastically physical feel for combat, and the same goes for Injustice: Gods Among Us.
There are two online game modes, in addition to the standard one-on-one battles: King of the Hill and Survival. King of the Hill sees a group of fighters matched together, taking it in turns to try and become King by toppling the current champion. The longer the King remains victorious, the more experience they gain, allowing them to unlock extra items and costumes. Survival is similar to this, the twist being that your energy is not recovered between fights, so the leader must be even more careful to remain on top.
With daily online challenges and player rankings, Injustice: Gods Among Us keeps you coming back for another bout. Be sure to keep practising, because the competition is superhuman.
